The ‘B’ in LGBT
As a bisexual woman, I often find it difficult to accept how people tend to make assumptions about my sexuality. Many myths exist about bisexuals, many of them malicious; I’ve been told that bisexuals are more likely to cheat on their partners, that we’re attention-seekers and not as serious about our same-sex partners as “real” gay and lesbian people, and that the discrimination we face isn’t as bad as gay and lesbian people face because we can “choose” to have a straight partner and “blend in” with society. It feels as though bisexuals face discrimination not only from homophobic straight people, but also from within the LGBT community.
