Being Christian and Giving A Damn
Hello, my name is Chloe, I’m 17, straight, and I live in London in the UK. And I truly give a damn.
I guess you could say that I am a born again Christian, as I decided to get baptized again this year. But before I did, I was questioning whether this was right for me, as a lot of what is in the bible, I didn’t agree with; mostly the way in which people interpret the bible to say that being gay is wrong. That God will punish you if you’re gay and you will spend the rest of eternity in Hell.
Before this, I was really excited to be turning seventeen this year in October, and was thinking about what I can do to celebrate my birthday with my friends and family. It wasn’t until I received an event request telling me to wear purple on October 20th. Curious, I clicked it to find out more.
I was horrified to see the stories of six teenagers who committed suicide, purely due to their sexuality.
Since then, I’ve been researching a lot about why a gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual or questioning person would decide the only way out was to end their life, and a pattern always seems to form; religion and faith.
Well, all I’m going to say is; People thought that the earth was flat, which is wrong.
People believed that eating shellfish is a sin, which is wrong.
People believed that if a child talked back to a parent, then that child should be beaten, which is wrong.
So guess what? Believing that homosexuality is a sin, is wrong!
The only reason people want homosexuality to be a sin is because of fear, and it’s this fear that has been carried on for far too long.
Now, I don’t care what you want to call it or if you believe in one or the other; Jesus, Buddha, Allah, Nature, Universe, Atheist, whatever; Nothing and nobody wants you to live in fear.
The only thing you need to do in your lifetime is Love.
People Love You, For You, and always will.
And this is why I Give A Damn.
