Here's the issue.

Over 90% of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth have been verbally harassed or assaulted in school in the past year. And over one third of students who reported an incident of bullying said that school staff didn't do a damn thing about it. In fact, nearly 2 out of 3 gay and transgender students have skipped school in the past month because they think it’s too unsafe to go. America, we need to give a damn.

 

Kids being kids?

Maybe you think it's no big deal. Kids being kids, right? When 3 out of 5 lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students feel unsafe at school - it’s a big deal. Principals themselves admit there's a problem. One out of three acknowledge that their staff is unable to deal with bullying of gay and transgender students.

 

We can make a difference.

Kids spend most of their waking hours at school. It’s where they learn, grow socially, and develop opinions about themselves and the world around them. A negative school experience can not only hinder a student’s future success, but also cause severe social, emotional, and psychological trauma that lasts a lifetime. It’s time we give a damn about making schools safer for our youth.
